Tips for Water Shut Down

The City would like to remind residents of a water shut down for all of Iqaluit on Wednesday, September 01, 2021 from approximately 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to allow for the replacement of key valves to our water infrastructure.

In an effort to ensure Iqaluit residents are prepared for the water shut down the following tips can be considered to avoid any major inconveniences:

On behalf of the City of Iqaluit and the Iqaluit City Council, Mayor Kenny Bell offers his condolences on the death of Nunatsiaq news’ long-time Nunatsiaq News editor, Jim Bell.

“We are dearly saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Jim Bell – a prominent journalistic voice who spent the majority of his life dedicated to the North and putting issues and concerns of Nunavummiut at the forefront in his work,” said Mayor Bell. “I’m holding your family in my heart right now.”

City of Iqaluit Office Closure – September 01, 2021

The City would like to advise residents that City offices and public buildings will be closed to the public on Wednesday, September 01, 2021 due to the city-wide water shutdown.

Water Truck services will not run on Wednesday, September 01, 2021 and regular service will restart on Thursday September 02, 2021. Sewer and Garbage trucked services will be operational during the shutdown.

Water Shut Down and Boil Water Advisory – All of Iqaluit

Please be advised of a water shut down for all of Iqaluit on Wednesday, September 01, 2021 from approximately 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to allow for the replacement of key valves to our water infrastructure. This work will ensure that valves are functioning as intended which will allow staff to better isolate sections of pipe during water shut downs for future repairs.

Food Security Funding Program – FINAL CALL

The City of Iqaluit is currently accepting project applications for remaining Food Security Funding initiative, for fiscal year ending March 31, 2022. The Food Security Fund supports projects up to $5,000. Deadline is Wednesday, September 15, 2021.

City Council approves 2020 consolidated financial statements

City Council approves 2020 consolidated financial statements

Iqaluit City Council approved its 2020 consolidated Financial Statements at a council meeting on August 10, 2021. The statements reflect the financial position and financial performance of the City as of December 31, 2020.

The City managed to maintain an overall positive financial position for its funds despite the challenges encountered due to the impacts of COVID-19. In 2019, the City recovered from a deficit position and maintained a positive positon in 2020.

Iqaluit City Council proclaims September 1 to 30, 2021 as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

The motion passed unanimously at a City Council Meeting on July 27, 2021.
