Road Closure – Pingua St. and Qaqqaliaq St. Preparation and Paving

August 9, 2026 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The City of Iqaluit is pleased to advise residents that road improvement and paving work on parts of Pingua Street and Qaqqaliaq Street will begin on Tuesday, August 11, as part of the City's 2026 road improvement projects. The City recognizes that many residents have been looking forward to these improvements and appreciates their patience as the work gets underway.

Construction will take place in phases to minimize disruption while maintaining local access whenever possible. Road preparation work is scheduled from August 11 to August 21, followed by asphalt paving and final drainage work from August 22 to September 3, 2026, as the paving schedule is weather-dependent.

During construction, residents can expect temporary traffic changes, parking restrictions, and minor delays in the affected areas. Access to some driveways may be temporarily unavailable while crews are working, generally between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Residents who plan to travel during the day are encouraged to move their vehicles before work begins each morning. Temporary resident parking will be available for homes affected during each phase of construction and is shown on the attached maps. Emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all times.

Please follow all posted signs and directions from traffic control personnel and use caution when travelling through construction areas.
