Spring Cleanup and Community Care

May 27, 2026 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

As the snow melts, garbage, damaged items, unused materials, and other debris may become visible in yards and outdoor spaces across Iqaluit.

The City is asking residents and property owners to take time this spring to clean up their properties where needed. Residents do not need to wait for a notice to begin cleanup. Small efforts across individual properties make a noticeable difference in helping keep our neighbourhoods clean, safe, and welcoming.

Keeping properties clean also helps reduce safety hazards and prevents loose debris from spreading throughout the community.

Municipal Enforcement officers will be visiting areas throughout the city as part of the City’s work under Unsightly Land Bylaw 714. Property owners whose yards require attention may receive a notice outlining what needs to be cleaned up.

The City understands that spring cleanup can take time, especially as snow continues to melt and conditions change. Property owners will have 30 days from the notice date to address the issue. If the work is not completed, the City may issue an order providing an additional 14 days to comply. If the issue remains unresolved, the City may issue a fine and arrange for cleanup, with costs charged back to the property owner as outlined in the bylaw.

Residents with questions are encouraged to speak with Municipal Enforcement officers when they are in the neighbourhood, visit Building 1549, or email municipalenforcement@iqaluit.ca.

The City thanks residents and property owners for helping care for our community.
