Water Update -Afternoon
February 5, 2023 – Iqaluit, Nunavut
Work continues on the water pipe located near the Tammaativvik medical boarding home. Piped water service has been restored to all of Iqaluit, with the exception of Tammaativvik.
If you live in a rental unit and still have no water, please contact your landlord to advise them of the issue so they can contact a local contractor to clear the line.
If you are a homeowner, and still have no water, you will need to contact a local contractor to clear the line. Homeowners can file a claim with the City for this process at https://www.iqaluit.ca/content/filing-claim.
Iqaluit remains under a precautionary boil water advisory for all residents on the piped water system.
During a precautionary boil water advisory, the City recommends that all water for consumption is brought to a rolling boil for a minimum of one full minute.
It is recommended that all water be boiled for the following uses:
- drinking;
- preparing infant formulas;
- preparing juices and ice cubes;
- washing fruits and vegetables;
- cooking; or
- brushing of teeth.
Water can be boiled either in a pot or kettle on a stove or an electric kettle without an automatic shut-off.
The City of Iqaluit will release a Public Service Announcement when the precautionary boil water advisory is lifted.
