Water Quality Update
Residents are reminded that the multi-tank bypass is in now in operation at the Water Treatment Plant. The bypass was turned on the evening of January 19. The bypass carries water from Lake Geraldine that is then strained, disinfected and distributed through the system to homes on both trucked and piped services. This water bypasses all concrete tanks in the Water Treatment Plant, and is being continually tested for hydrocarbons.
• There is a precautionary boil water advisory is in place at this time for residents on both piped and trucked services.
• It is essential that all water be boiled for the following uses:
• Drinking.
• Preparing infant formulas.
• Preparing juices and ice cubes.
• Washing fruits and vegetables.
• Cooking.
• Brushing of teeth.
• Water can be boiled for one minute in either a pot or kettle on a stove or an electric kettle without an automatic shut-off.
The City is also advising residents of a small contamination event that occurred the morning of January 19, 2022. City staff were alerted to the event and responded by following the previously established procedures to remove any potential contamination before it moved into the piped system. Ongoing sampling and monitoring continues.
• The real-time monitoring station at the Water Treatment Plant in a treated water tank detected trace amounts of hydrocarbons.
• Flushing efforts at the reservoir mitigated the risk of hydrocarbons entering the piped system.
