Zero Tolerance for Public Drinking
July 5, 2024 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The City of Iqaluit would like to remind residents that there is zero tolerance for public drinking in the City, particularly at city-owned assets such as recreation facilities. Public intoxication and disruptive behaviour are not tolerated. These measures are in place to ensure the safety, health, and well-being of all community members.

Residents are encouraged to engage in healthy, alcohol-free activities and to look out for one another. Community wellness is a shared responsibility, and together we can create a safer, healthier environment for all.

To further enhance safety throughout the summer, the City has coordinated with the Nunavut Department of Justice, RCMP, and Municipal Enforcement to establish additional random checkpoints. These checkpoints will help maintain a secure and peaceful environment for everyone.

Remember, don’t drink and drive. If you are planning to drink, have a plan to get home safely. If you see someone drinking and driving, please call the RCMP at 867-979-0123.
