Your Ex Didn’t Take the Couch, But We Will

June 9, 2026 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The City of Iqaluit is pleased to announce the return of the Residential Large Item Pick-Up Program starting the week of June 15, 2026.

If you have an old couch, broken appliance, mystery mattress, or several items you’ve been meaning to deal with “eventually,” this is your moment.

Accepted items include appliances, furniture, mattresses, bundled flooring materials, plumbing fixtures, windows, mirrors, and other large household items too large for regular garbage collection.

Items not accepted include regular household garbage, hazardous waste, construction waste, loose debris, vehicle parts, electronics, paint, fuel, chemicals, tires, and items from commercial properties.

Residents are asked to place approved large items at the road’s edge, next to their garbage bin, during the week of June 15. To help crews plan collection routes, residents are encouraged to have their items out by Monday, June 15. Items should be kept separate from regular garbage and placed in organized, unstacked piles.

Please remove any personal belongings not intended for disposal from the area before collection begins. Some things deserve a second chance. Some things absolutely do not.

This program is available for residential areas only. Commercial areas, including the downtown core, West 40, and Federal Road, are not eligible.

The City thanks residents for helping keep neighbourhoods cleaner, safer, and slightly less crowded with things nobody has sat on since 2021.
