Water Plant To Return To Operation
April 20, 2023 – Iqaluit, Nunavut
The City would like to inform residents that work has been completed on the Iqaluit Water Treatment Plant, and that the Government of Nunavut’s Chief Public Health Officer has approved resuming operations.
The tentative date for reactivating the Water Treatment Plant is April 25th. Closer to April 25th, the City will be releasing more specific details about timing and possible water interruptions.
As is standard with any water interruption, there will be a precautionary boil water order put in place when the plant resumes operations. However –due to the amount of tests that will be conducted- this precautionary boil water order will last longer than usual. It may last as long as a week.
The testing will involve tests for bacteria, chlorine levels, and the ongoing use of the S::can digital monitoring system to detect hydrocarbons. These tests will be taking place inside the Water Treatment Plant and at various locations throughout the City.
The City thanks residents for their ongoing patience, and looks forward to a return to normal operations at the Water Treatment Plant.
