Thank You to Iqaluit’s 2026 Summer Clean-up Crew

August 14, 2026 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The City of Iqaluit extends its sincere thanks and appreciation to the members of the 2026 Summer Clean-Up Crew.

This year’s 10-member crew brought together summer students and casual employees who have been working since the beginning of June to clean and care for public spaces across Iqaluit.

Throughout the summer, the crew has collected litter and debris from public areas around the city, with particular attention given to locations that are difficult to access or that have not always been reached through regular clean-up efforts. This has included areas near the end of the runway, the causeway and the breakwater.

To date, it is estimated that the crew has collected approximately 700 to 800 bags of waste from public spaces across Iqaluit. This is in addition to larger items collected through the City’s large-item collection, including electronics, tires and furniture.

The crew is expected to continue its work until approximately August 20, helping build on the progress made throughout the summer.

Much of this work is physically demanding and takes place in areas that are not always highly visible. The City is grateful for the crew’s hard work, reliability and commitment. Their efforts have made a noticeable difference and have helped make Iqaluit cleaner and more welcoming for everyone.

As the crew’s summer work approaches its conclusion, the City encourages residents to help keep that momentum going by:

• Disposing of waste properly;
• Securing household garbage and loose materials;
• Helping keep shared public spaces clean;
• Participating in community clean-up activities; and
• Taking pride in the community we share.

Keeping Iqaluit clean is something we can all contribute to. Small actions, taken consistently, can help protect our land, improve our shared spaces and build on the work completed by this year’s crew.

The City once again thanks the members of the 2026 Summer Clean-Up Crew for the care, effort and energy they have brought to this important work.

Together, we can keep the momentum going and help keep Iqaluit clean throughout the year.
