Tetra Tech Permafrost Ground Survey – August 25 to September 4

August 21, 2026 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The City of Iqaluit would like to advise residents that Tetra Tech Canada will be conducting a permafrost ground survey in Iqaluit from August 25 to September 4, 2026.

The survey team will use geophysical equipment that looks underground without digging to better understand the frozen ground, soil, and rock below the surface.

Residents may see Tetra Tech workers and equipment in public areas for short periods during the survey. This may include equipment being pulled along roads and workers swinging sledgehammers as part of data collection.

Minor traffic delays may occur while data is being collected; however, there will be no lane closures. Residents may also hear noise from the use of sledgehammers.

For safety, residents are asked to remain at least 5 metres away from survey equipment due to potential tripping hazards.

For questions about the survey work, please contact:

David McBean, B.Sc., P.Geo.
Senior Geophysicist
Tetra Tech Canada

The City thanks residents for their cooperation during this work.
