Targeted Enforcement Initiative Aims to Reduce Alcohol-Related Incidents

January 27, 2026 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The City of Iqaluit Municipal Enforcement Department, in partnership with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), is proud to announce the launch of a new pilot project aimed at enhancing public safety and community well-being in our city.

This collaborative initiative will focus on joint Liquor and Traffic enforcement efforts throughout Iqaluit. The goal is to curb and reduce incidents of public intoxication, public consumption of liquor, impaired driving, and other traffic-related offences that pose risks to residents and visitors alike.

As part of this project, residents may notice increased foot patrols and officers actively engaging with individuals around the city. These visible efforts are designed not only to enforce the law but also to foster positive relationships, build trust, and promote responsible behavior. Officers will be on the ground, ensuring compliance with liquor laws and traffic regulations, and addressing any concerns promptly.

This project is about more than enforcement — it’s about building a stronger, safer community where everyone feels secure and respected. By working together, we can reduce accidents, prevent tragedies, and ensure that Iqaluit remains a welcoming place for residents, visitors, families, and youth.

We ask for your cooperation and support as we work together to create a safer, healthier environment for everyone in Iqaluit. If you see officers out in your neighborhood, feel free to say hello or ask questions — they are here to serve and protect.

Thank you for helping us make Iqaluit a safer place for all.

For more information, please contact the City of Iqaluit Municipal Enforcement Department or the RCMP.

Stay safe, stay responsible, and let's build a stronger community together.
