Roads Are Being Cleared – Please Stay off Roads until Safe to Drive

April 25, 2022 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

4:10 - The City of Iqaluit would like to advise residents that roads are now being cleared and the city is in the process of resuming limited services (water and waste removal).  Full suspension of services is still a possibility, if weather conditions deteriorate.

Drivers and pedestrians should still refrain from using or going near the streets at this time. When the main roads are cleared and services are fully restored, the City will issue a public service announcement.

Citizens on trucked services are asked to conserve water until water is delivered to your unit.  Our primary objective is to restore water delivery and removal of waste as soon as reasonably possible.

Emergency services will be provided unless it is unsafe and/or impossible to do so; delays can be expected. Please call 979-4422 for fire and ambulance services.

Owners of vehicles are reminded to move their vehicles off the road to assist with snow removal. Vehicles that have been abandoned on the road and impede traffic during the snow-clearing operation may be impounded under local and territorial legislation, and the owner may be subject to a fine. The City will not be held responsible for any damages to vehicles left on the road either as a result of snow clearing operations or the removal of the vehicle.

For updates regarding the status of services, please call the blizzard line at 979-5300.

This Public Service Announcement remains in effect until further notice.
