Pet Licenses and Increased Patrols
May 9, 2025 – Iqaluit, Nunavut
The City of Iqaluit would like to remind all residents that domestic animals must be licensed. Pet licences are free and available at the Municipal Enforcement Office (Building 1549). Make sure your pet wears their tag—it helps officers return lost animals quickly and avoids potential fines under City Bylaw 924.
Increased patrols are underway throughout Iqaluit to help reduce the number of loose animals. If you see officers on foot in your neighbourhood, they are working to identify and address issues involving stray or unleashed animals.
This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to public safety and animal welfare. Loose animals can create traffic hazards, cause property damage, and may lead to injuries or the spread of disease. We encourage all residents to do their part by keeping pets leashed in public and secured at home.
How you can help:
• Keep your pets leashed when walking them.
• Ensure collars and chains are secure.
• Pick up a free tag and attach it to your pet’s collar.
• Report loose animals by calling 867-979-5650 during business hours. Include the location, animal description, and direction of travel if known.
By working together, we can support our officers and help maintain a safe, pleasant community for everyone.
