National Day for Truth and Reconciliation – City Office Closure

September 29, 2026 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day to honour the strength and resilience of all Inuit and Indigenous Survivors of residential schools, their families, and their communities.

The City of Iqaluit will close all municipal offices on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, in recognition of this important day.

This day invites us to listen, learn, and reflect on the experiences of residential school Survivors, their families, and communities. It is also an opportunity to consider how we can contribute to reconciliation through our everyday actions and relationships. The City of Iqaluit encourages residents to take part in local events, engage with the teachings and perspectives shared by Inuit and Indigenous community members, and continue these conversations beyond September 30.

Residential water and sewer services and garbage collection will operate on their regular schedule. The Iqaluit Aquatic Centre will be open from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

Together, we honour the past and look toward a future built on respect and mutual understanding. On this day and every day, let’s continue learning from one another, honouring the truth, and working together to build a stronger, more connected community.
