National Day for Truth and Reconciliation – City Office Closure
September 26, 2025 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day to honour the strength and resilience of Inuit and all Indigenous survivors of residential schools, their families, and their communities.

The City of Iqaluit will close all municipal offices on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, in recognition of this important day.

This is a time for reflection, learning, and community. The City of Iqaluit recognizes that reconciliation is an ongoing process rooted in relationships, respect, and action. As the municipal government serving Iqalummiut, we are committed to working with community partners to support initiatives that promote healing, learning, and inclusion.

Residential water and sewer services and garbage collection will operate on their regular schedule. The Iqaluit Aquatic Centre will be open from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

Community Events

Residents are encouraged to join the Qikiqtani Inuit Association for community events beginning at 1:30 PM at Four Corners. Activities include an orange t-shirt distribution, a moment of silence and prayer, a community walk to Iqaluit Square, and a gathering at the Square.

These events offer an opportunity to come together in reflection and community. All residents are encouraged to join these events as an opportunity to reflect, learn, and stand together as a community.

Together, we honour the past and look toward a future built on respect and mutual understanding. On this day and every day, let us continue learning from one another, honouring the truth, and working together to build a stronger, more connected community.
