Help Keep Driveways Safe for Garbage Collection

April 16, 2025 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The City of Iqaluit would like to remind residents how important it is to keep driveways and garbage areas clear and safe for waste collection.

To help sanitation crews do their job safely, please make sure your garbage box is easy to reach. This includes clearing snow and ice around the bin and along the driveway, removing anything that blocks access—like vehicles, pets, or other items—and using sand or grit to reduce slippery areas.

These steps aren’t just helpful—they’re required. According to Section 401(4) of the City’s Solid Waste Bylaw #341, all waste generators are responsible for keeping access to their waste containers clear. This includes removing snow, ice, mud, and other barriers, and sanding icy patches.

If workers cannot safely access your garbage box, your waste may not be collected. Keeping your property clear helps protect City staff and keeps services running smoothly for everyone in the community.

Thank you for your help!
