Headlight and Taillight Use Reminder
December 09, 2024 – Iqaluit, Nunavut
The City of Iqaluit Municipal Enforcement Department would like to remind motorists that headlights and taillights must be turned on during hours of darkness or in inclement weather.
Recently, there has been an increase in motorists driving at night with only their daytime running lights activated, leaving their taillights off. This can create dangerous conditions for all road users.
Many modern vehicles are equipped with an auto mode for headlights, which automatically activates the lights in low-light conditions. However, this feature must be manually selected on the headlight switch to function.
Territorial and Municipal laws require the use of headlights and taillights when visibility conditions necessitate. Failure to comply may result in a fine of $100.00. Additionally, auxiliary lights on vehicles may only be used on municipal roadways when they are mounted below the factory headlights.
Ensure your safety and the safety of others by checking your vehicle lights every time before driving.
Stay safe, and thank you for helping to keep our roads safe for everyone.
