A Halloween Safety Note from the City of Iqaluit
October 30, 2025 – Iqaluit, Nunavut
As the nights grow colder and little ghosts, goblins, and superheroes prepare to fill the streets with laughter and excitement, the City of Iqaluit would like to remind everyone to keep safety top of mind this Halloween night, Friday, October 31.
The Iqaluit Fire Department and Municipal Enforcement will be active across the city, keeping watch and lending a friendly hand where needed. Let your child know that if they need help or feel unsure at any time, they can look for a uniformed member of these teams.
They will be present in the community and happy to help.
Let’s work together to make it a fun and safe evening for all.
Health and Safety Tips:
• Keep pets contained and away from the front entrance, or consider handing out treats outside.
• Use LED candles or lighting instead of real candles for a safe, spooky glow.
• Make sure driveways, porches, and steps are well lit and free from tripping hazards.
• An adult should inspect all candy before consumption.
Halloween Tips for Kids:
• Tell your parents or guardians where you will be, who you are with, and when you will be home.
• Bring a cell phone, if available, in case plans change.
• Follow pedestrian safety rules: look both ways before crossing, walk— do not run, and always use crosswalks.
• Trick-or-treat down one side of the street before crossing to the other to avoid unnecessary road crossings.
• Wear bright, reflective clothing to stay visible to drivers.
• Never enter a stranger’s house or vehicle while trick-or-treating.
• If a situation or person makes you feel uncomfortable, trust your instincts. Walk away and call a parent or trusted adult, or seek help from one of the "Partners for Safety" vehicles.
Stay safe, have fun, and Happy Halloween, Iqaluit!
