Fox Trap Safety While on the Land
November 29, 2022 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The City of Iqaluit would like to remind residents to exert caution when walking on the land – especially with small children, or animals – as fox traps are present.

Residents are reminded that they are responsible to keep their pets and children safe when travelling on the land. Municipal Bylaw #924, also known as the Domestic Animal Control Bylaw, states that all animals are required to be leashed and under control at all times.

Section 5.7.17(b) of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement (NLCA) states that Hunters and Trappers are to avoid placing traps any place within a radius of one mile, or 1.6 kilometers, of any building or structure.

Please note it is illegal to spring or interfere with set traps.
