Fire Response – 147A
June 7, 2023 – Iqaluit, Nunavut
The City of Iqaluit Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 147A at lunch time on June 6th. The preliminary cause of the fire is believed to be unsafe, makeshift, amateur wiring.
The occupants of the building were not home at the time of the fire. No one was injured. There was some fire damage to two rooms of the home, and extensive smoke damage throughout.
The City of Iqaluit Fire Department responded with 19 firefighters, who were able to extinguish the blaze within 15 minutes of their arrival. They were able to leave the fire scene safely two hours later.
The City of Iqaluit Fire Department would like to thanks their partners for their quick response. Municipal Enforcement, RCMP and the Qulliq Energy Corporation were all very helpful to the emergency response.
