Wildlife Trapping – Community Safety Reminder
November 6, 2026 – Iqaluit, Nunavut
With snow now on the ground and trapping season underway, the City of Iqaluit would like to share a friendly reminder with residents to be mindful of wildlife traps when enjoying the outdoors with their pets.
As residents make use of local trails, roads and surrounding areas, it's important to remember that wildlife traps may be difficult to see beneath the snow. Pet owners are encouraged to keep their animals close and pay attention to their surroundings to help prevent accidental encounters with traps.
The City also reminds those engaged in trapping activities that traps must be placed in accordance with territorial regulations and away from prohibited areas. Trappers are encouraged to consider the safety of residents, pets and others using nearby roads and trails. Residents are also reminded not to disturb, move or activate wildlife traps they may come across.
Whether out for a walk, enjoying the land or participating in trapping activities, being considerate of others helps make our shared outdoor spaces safer for everyone.
A little extra care and consideration can help everyone enjoy the outdoors safely.
