Sand and Clear Driveways for Safe Service Access

November 2, 2026 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The City of Iqaluit is reminding all residents on trucked services to keep their driveways clear and well sanded to ensure safe access for water, sewer, and garbage trucks.

Current weather conditions in Iqaluit, including freezing rain and rapidly warming temperatures, have made road surfaces extremely slippery. Ice buildup on gravel roads is significant. Crews are actively sanding and cutting ice to improve road safety.

As a safety precaution, trucked services have been temporarily removed from the road. Service will resume once road and driveway conditions are safe for large vehicles.

To avoid missed service when operations resume:

·       Shovel out your driveway and access points.

·       Sand thoroughly to reduce slipperiness.

·       Avoid parking in a way that blocks truck access.

Driveways that are unsafe may be skipped until they can be accessed without risk to equipment or crews.

The City appreciates the community’s cooperation and patience as we respond to these challenging conditions.
