Invitation to Join the Homelessness Advisory Board

October 26, 2026 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

 

 

The City of Iqaluit Homelessness Advisory Board (HAB) is inviting a community member with prior lived experience of homelessness to join the Board. Your knowledge and perspective would help the HAB better understand local needs and make decisions that reflect the experiences of people who have faced homelessness or housing instability in Iqaluit.

 

What is Reaching Home?

Reaching Home: Canada’s Homelessness Strategy is a federal program that supports local efforts to prevent and reduce homelessness. The City of Iqaluit is the Community Entity responsible for delivering the Territorial Homelessness funding in Iqaluit. The HAB works closely with the City to help guide this work.

 

What does the HAB do?

Recommends priorities for Reaching Home funding and reviews projects for funding; Helps develop and approve the community plan and annual homelessness report;

Brings together community organizations, Inuit organizations, governments, service providers, and people with lived experience;

Supports coordinated access, data quality, privacy, and the use of community information to improve services; and

Identifies local challenges and opportunities to prevent and reduce homelessness.

 

What would your role be?

As a voting HAB member, you would attend and participate in meetings, share your perspective, help identify community priorities, review plans and recommendations, and consider what is best for the community as a whole.

The HAB meets at least four times each year. Members must respect confidentiality, follow the HAB Terms of Reference, and declare any conflict of interest. You would receive an orientation

before joining, and the City will work with you to identify reasonable supports that would help you participate.
