No Elves Available? We’re Calling on Volunteers Instead!
October 15, 2026 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The City of Iqaluit is looking for community support to help make this year’s Christmas Games another fun and memorable holiday celebration.

Every year, the Christmas Games bring people together for evenings of games, prizes, entertainment and community spirit. This year, one of our biggest needs is people!

We are looking for community groups, businesses, organizations and individuals who are willing to lend a hand, bring some holiday cheer and help keep this Iqaluit tradition going strong.

We are looking for support in a variety of ways, including:

  • Hosting a night of the Christmas Games;
  • Volunteering to help run games and activities;
  • Providing musical entertainment or performances (paid opportunity);
  • Making a financial donation; or
  • Providing in-kind donations of prizes, such as gift cards, toys, camping supplies and more.

The Christmas Games usually run for seven to eight evenings in late December, overlapping with Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, with activities taking place from approximately 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Can you help for one evening? Great!

Can your workplace, organization or community group put together a volunteer crew? Even better!

No elf experience required. Reindeer not required either. All we’re looking for is a willingness to lend a hand and help make the Christmas Games fun for the community.

Have a hidden talent, a great game idea, prizes to donate, or simply some holiday spirit to share? We want to hear from you.

You do not need to take on the whole Christmas Games to make a difference. Whether you can support one evening, provide a few volunteers, offer entertainment, donate prizes or contribute financially, every contribution helps us continue providing the Christmas Games for the community.

Interested in getting involved?

Please contact the City of Iqaluit Recreation Department:

Let’s work together to keep the Christmas Games a strong, fun and welcoming community tradition this holiday season.
