Water Flow Testing in Lower Iqaluit

September 25, 2026 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The City of Iqaluit would like to let residents know that water flow testing is taking place in Lower Iqaluit in support of a new development.

During flow testing, fire hydrants are opened to full capacity so water flow and pressure can be measured. This higher-than-normal flow can stir up sediment that has settled in the pipes, which may temporarily cause yellow or brownish discolouration in tap water.

If you notice discoloured water, run a cold-water tap for about 30 seconds, or until the water runs clear. If the water does not clear after flushing, please contact Public Works at 867-979-5630.

Some temporary discolouration may occur while testing is underway.
