AWG Turf Removal and Ice Installation

September 8, 2026 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

 

The City of Iqaluit would like to inform residents that, effective immediately, the turf has been removed from the Arctic Winter Games Arena and turf activities have concluded for the season.

The arena is closed to the public for use during this transition. The Youth Centre and BeaverTails remain open.

The arena floor is being prepared for the Baffin Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Nunavut Trade Show, taking place next week. Following the trade show, work will begin to prepare the facility for ice installation.

Ice activities are anticipated to begin in mid-October. The City will provide an update by the end of September regarding anticipated ice availability, rentals, and programming.

The City thanks residents, athletes, and user groups for their patience and understanding as the arena transitions to the upcoming ice season.

We’re looking forward to another busy summer at the turf. Even showing up counts as a strong start.
