Community Cleanup 2026: The Garbage Lost
June 26, 2026 – Iqaluit, Nunavut
The City of Iqaluit would like to thank everyone who participated in the 2026 Community Clean Up on Friday, June 19.
Together, residents, businesses, organizations, and volunteers collected approximately 1500 bags of garbage from across the city. The streets, parks, pathways, and shorelines are all looking noticeably better, and significantly less crunchy.
This year’s clean up showed how much residents care about the community, and how quickly things improve when everyone picks up a bag and gets involved.
From neighbourhood cleanups and workplace teams to families, students, and individual volunteers, the turnout showed what can happen when a community works together for a few hours with gloves, garbage bags, and mild determination.
The City would also like to thank the many sponsors and organizations that helped support this year’s event. Your contributions helped provide supplies, prizes, food, and support throughout the day.
A special thank you also goes out to everyone who joined the volunteer cookout and participated in the prize draws.
Most importantly, thank you to everyone who came out to help. Whether you picked up one bag or twenty, every effort made a visible difference throughout the community.
Residents are encouraged to keep the momentum going throughout the summer. Anyone who would like to continue cleaning up their neighbourhood can pick up two garbage bags at a time from City Hall while supplies last. One less mystery item at a time.
The City thanks everyone for helping make Iqaluit cleaner, brighter, and noticeably less full of mystery debris.
