Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Event

June 9, 2026 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The City of Iqaluit’s annual Household Hazardous Waste drop-off program is here to help residents safely dispose of items that should not go in regular garbage.

This is for the old paint can you meant to deal with last year, the batteries living in the junk drawer, and the mystery can under the sink that nobody has made eye contact with in a while.

Good news. Its moment has arrived.

The first drop-off day will be held:

Date: Saturday, June 13
Time: 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Location: Abe Okpik Hall

Accepted household items include, but are not limited to:

Anti-freeze, adhesives, aerosols, automotive and household batteries, cleaners, corrosives, fuels, mercury, oxidizers, poisons, paint cans and spray paint, pharmaceuticals, solvents, and electronic waste.

Items not accepted include:

Used oil, oil filters, oil containers, tires, propane tanks, biological waste, infectious waste, radioactive waste, explosives, ammunition, and industrial waste.

Residents are asked to keep labels on any materials they bring for disposal. Labels help identify the materials, support proper disposal, and reduce the need to test unknown substances.

We thanks residents for helping keep Iqaluit clean, safe, and slightly less full of mystery containers.
