Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Begins May 30
May 26, 2026 – Iqaluit, Nunavut
The City of Iqaluit’s annual Household Hazardous Waste drop-off program will begin on Saturday, May 30, giving residents a safe way to get rid of items that should not go in regular garbage.
This is for the old paint, cleaners, batteries, chemicals, electronics, and other items that may have been sitting in a cupboard, porch, shed, or storage room waiting for the right time.
Good news. The right time is coming.
The first drop-off day will be held:
Date: Saturday, May 30
Time: 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Location: Airbase Garage at Four Corners
Accepted household items include, but are not limited to:
Anti-freeze, adhesives, aerosols, automotive and household batteries, cleaners, corrosives, fuels, mercury, oxidizers, poisons, paint cans and spray paint, pharmaceuticals, solvents, and electronic waste.
Items not accepted include:
Used oil, oil filters, oil containers, tires, propane tanks, biological waste, infectious waste, radioactive waste, explosives, ammunition, and industrial waste.
Residents are asked to keep labels on any materials they bring for disposal. Labels help identify the materials, support proper disposal, and reduce the need to test unknown substances.
The City is also planning future drop-off days on June 13, July 11, August 8, September 12, and October 10. Locations for these dates will be shared once they are confirmed.
We thanks residents for helping keep Iqaluit clean, safe, and slightly less full of mystery containers.
