Turf Season is Back!
May 15, 2026 – Iqaluit, Nunavut
The turf at the Arctic Winter Games (AWG) Arena officially reopens on Monday, May 25, 2026.
After a long winter, the turf is back and ready for another summer of recreation, casual use, sports, drop-ins, programming, and community activities. Whether you already play, have been meaning to get more active, or are once again saying “this is the summer I finally get more
active,” the turf is ready for you. No previous athletic experience is required. Confidence levels may vary.
The turf is open to all ages and experience levels, whether you’re training competitively, joining a recreation league, or just trying to move around a bit more this summer. Residents are encouraged to check out local recreation and social sport groups this season. It’s a great way to stay active, meet people, and discover that running for fun is somehow much harder than remembered.
Information on bookings, drop-ins, and programming is available through the City’s Recreation Department. Residents, organizations, and daycares interested in booking the turf can contact Recreation Services at I.GuestServicesDesk@iqaluit.ca. Anyone interested in recurring turf time slots is asked to submit requests by Thursday, May 21, to assist with scheduling and public programming coordination.
We’ll do our best to accommodate groups fairly throughout the season, while also setting aside time for Teen Drop-In, Public Drop-In, Youth Centre programming, Family Drop-In, private rentals, birthday parties, and City events.
Clean indoor shoes are required on the turf surface. Gravel season remains outside. Please help us keep it there.
We’re looking forward to another busy summer at the turf. Even showing up counts as a strong start.
