Turf Installation at AWG Arena

May 1, 2026 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

 

The City of Iqaluit would like to advise residents that the final day for regular ice times at City arenas will be Sunday, May 3, 2026.

Ice removal at both arenas, as well as the curling rink, will begin on Monday, May 4, 2026.

The City would like to thank residents, user groups, and staff for a successful ice season and for their continued support and participation in recreational programming.

Following ice removal, minor repairs and maintenance will be completed at the Arctic Winter Games (AWG) Arena prior to the installation of turf. At this time, the City anticipates that the turf will be ready and open to the public by the third week of May. An update on opening dates will be privded as work progresses.

We look forward to welcoming residents back to the facility and to an active and enjoyable summer season on the turf.
