Call Out for Iqaluit City Council Member

April 22, 2026 — Iqaluit, Nunavut

The City of Iqaluit is looking for residents interested in serving as a member of City Council.

Eligibility Criteria

The prospective appointee must meet the following criteria:

 ü	I am a Canadian citizen;<br />
ü	I am at least 18 years old on Election Day;<br />
ü	I am a resident of Nunavut for at least one year;<br />
ü	I am a resident of Iqaluit;<br />
ü	If I am a member of the Public Service (GN) I will comply with the Public Service Act in respect to becoming a member of council;<br />
ü	I am NOT personally in debt to the City of Iqaluit for $500 or more for more than 90 days;<br />
ü	I do NOT have controlling interest in a company that is in debt to the City of Iqaluit for $500 or more for more than 90 days;<br />
ü	I have paid all municipal taxes before December 31 in the year they were billed;<br />
 ü	I am NOT an employee of the City of Iqaluit;<br />
ü	I am NOT an assessor or auditor of the City of Iqaluit or a surety for an officer or employee of the City of Iqaluit;<br />
ü	I am NOT a justice of the peace;<br />
ü	I am NOT a Sheriff;<br />
ü	I am NOT a judge of any court, other than a citizenship court;<br />
ü	I am NOT disqualified for psychiatric reasons;<br />
ü	I am NOT confined to a correctional institution;<br />
ü	I have NOT committed an election offense anywhere in Canada with the last 5 years; and<br />
ü	I am NOT an MP, MLA, or Senator.</p>

·      Vacant Seat Application for the City of Iqaluit – Councillor Form

·      Appointment to Municipal Council – Councillor Form (Elections Nunavut form)

·      2026 Annual City Council Meeting Schedule

·      City of Iqaluit Indemnity Bylaw #970

 

Application Submission Deadline

Applications must be submitted to the city clerk’s office by Friday, May 22, 2026, at 4:30 PM. 

Applications may be submitted:

·      In person: City Hall Building #1085 - Side ‘A’ Reception.

Decision

City Council will vote on prospective appointees, based on the information provided in their submitted application packages, at the City Council Meeting on Tuesday, June 23, 2026. Applicants are welcome to attend in person or watch on livestream to follow the proceedings. The successful candidate will be notified on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
