Taxi Fare Rate Adjustment – May 1
April 16, 2026 – Iqaluit, Nunavut
The City of Iqaluit would like to inform residents that, effective May 1, 2026, taxi fare rates will be adjusted.
The standard taxi fare will increase from $9.50 to $9.75. There is no change to the Elders Fare this year, which will remain at $8.00. Children under 10 years old, when accompanied by an adult, will continue to ride free of charge.
These changes apply to all areas of Iqaluit where taxi tariffs are enforced. The adjustments follow the provisions outlined in City By-law #997, Schedule H, which governs fare rates and revisions. This adjustment reflects the City’s routine fare review process under the Taxi Tariff By-law.
The City encourages residents and businesses to connect with Caribou Cabs in advance to exchange existing blue vouchers (currently valued at $9.50). Vouchers will be exchanged at fair market value. Taxi drivers will also remind clients to use or exchange their vouchers prior to the May 1, 2026, fare change.
