Your Story Could Help Fund Arena Upgrades
February 10, 2026 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

 

The City of Iqaluit is proud to announce that we are nominating the Arctic Winter Games Arena for Kraft Hockeyville 2026, a national award program that supports upgrades to local arenas across Canada. The winning community will receive $250,000 in funding for critical repairs and improvements, and we need your help to make it happen.

This is a one-time opportunity to bring national attention and significant investment to our arena. Every story, photo, and message of support from residents helps us earn points and strengthen our chance of winning.

We are calling on residents of all ages to share your photos, stories, and words of support about what the Arctic Winter Games Arena means to you. Whether you have skated here, cheered for family from the stands, or built lasting friendships through hockey, your voice matters.

What the Arena Means to Our Community:

·       Hockey and skating bring Iqalummiut together, building community spirit and supporting youth, adults, and families alike, especially during our long winters.

·       The arena is more than a building. It is a hub for connection, wellness, and belonging.

·       From cheering during Toonik Tyme tournaments to watching youth try out for the Arctic Winter Games, the arena has brought generations of Iqalummiut together through sport and shared moments.

·       Your participation adds points to our nomination and helps show the heart and resilience of our community.
