Community Cleanup 2025: Cleaner Spaces, Stronger Community
June 18, 2025 – Iqaluit, Nunavut
The City of Iqaluit extends a heartfelt thank you to all residents, businesses, and community groups who participated in the 2025 Community Cleanup on Friday, June 13. Your efforts helped collect 315 bags of garbage and an additional 35 cubic metres of oversized waste. While much of this litter comes from within our own community, the strong turnout and shared effort reflect a growing sense of responsibility for our shared spaces.
This annual event represents more than picking up litter; it is a chance to show our pride in where we live. A cleaner city supports public health, protects local wildlife, and helps create spaces that everyone can enjoy. Whether you cleaned up your street, joined friends at a local park, or pitched in at your workplace, your actions made a real impact.
The success of the Community Cleanup would not have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors. We are grateful to C and K Services for once again providing garbage bags and gloves, and to Canadian North for donating a return airline ticket between Iqaluit and Ottawa as the grand prize. We also thank Uqsuq Corporation, Uasau Soap, Frobisher Inn, NorthMart, Tim Hortons, Arctic Ventures Marketplace, and the World Wildlife Fund for their important contributions. This collective support not only made the event possible, it also highlighted the pride we share in our city and the value we place on coming together as a community.
To everyone who participated, joined the community barbecue, or entered the prize draws, thank you. Your involvement helped bring people together and showed how much we can accomplish when we act as a community.
To keep this momentum going, the City will be launching a Community Cleanup Photo Contest in the next few weeks. The contest will encourage residents to continue cleaning throughout the summer and showcase the great work being done across our neighbourhoods. Please watch for more details on how to take part.
Let us continue to take pride in our surroundings and work together for a cleaner and stronger Iqaluit. Every effort counts and your contributions truly make a difference.
