News Release
Christmas Games 2024
December 11, 2024 – Iqaluit, Nunavut
The City of Iqaluit is pleased to announce that this year’s Christmas Games will be held at the Cadet Hall on the following dates: December 23, 24, 26, 27, 30, 31, from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM. We invite the community to come together and enjoy this cherished annual event, which celebrates the holiday spirit and strengthens our bonds as a community.
The City is disappointed by the decision of the Iqaluit District Education Authority (IDEA) to deny the use of public school facilities for this year’s Christmas Games, despite the City’s comprehensive efforts to meet their stated requirements. City staff worked diligently to address all concerns raised, preparing detailed security, safety, and programming plans to ensure the responsible use of these public buildings.
Despite these efforts, the IDEA and school principals have chosen not to approve the use of these facilities. While we acknowledge their decision, we are disappointed by the missed opportunity to utilize these public spaces, which would have allowed us to accommodate more community members for this cherished event.
The City of Iqaluit remains committed to delivering safe and enjoyable community programming, and we are thankful to the organizers, volunteers, and the Cadet Hall for their support in hosting this year’s Christmas Games.
We look forward to celebrating together and encourage everyone to participate.
