Hot Spot at Landfill – Update III
April 29, 2022 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The City of Iqaluit’s Fire Response Team continues ongoing efforts to mitigate the risk of a hot spot recurrence at the landfill.

The initial flame and embers have been extinguished; the team is undertaking risk mitigation steps to prevent a possible flare-up, should there be any residual embers still active.

How this effects residents:

• The landfill will remain closed for the weekend. An update will be provided on Monday.
• The road to the deep sea port will remain closed until further notice, for reasons of public safety.

Residents are reminded to:

• Separate all types of batteries out of household waste. They can be dropped off at the landfill entrance.
• Not dispose of lit cigarette butts in or in proximity to the landfill.
