Fitness Centre Coordinator
Reporting to the Manager of Recreation Services, the Fitness Centre Coordinator is responsible for the overall operation of the Fitness Centre and its programs and services, as well as the administrative duties in those areas. The Fitness Centre Coordinator shall implement individual fitness, wellness and programming classes to meet the needs of the guests, while ensuring inclusivity and fostering a welcoming environment. They will be responsible for scheduling, training and developing the fitness centre team. They shall operate a safe environment for guests and staff in a cost efficient manner and in compliance with industry standards and regulations. The Fitness Centre Coordinator is involved with both short and long term program and staff development planning, financial planning/budgeting and supporting day-to-day operations in relation to maintaining the centre, as well as instructing group classes and workshops. This position will be responsible for developing a qualified, competent team to deliver individual and group programs and activities. They will be responsible for the fitness centre marketing, promotions and communications. They will also work with the other Recreation Department staff to plan community fitness and wellness events.
Required Qualifications:
- Group Fitness Instructor - canfitPro Fitness Instructor Specialist (FIS) or equivalent
- Personal Trainer - canfitPro Personal Trainer Specialist (PTS) or equivalent
- canfitPro Trainer (FIS and PTS) or equivalent (instructor trainer) Ability to teach instructor training and ability to do personal training
- canfitPro Trainer (FIS) in progress may be considered
- First Aid and CPR – C
- Minimum two years experience working in the fitness industry
- Minimum two years instructing group fitness classes
- Minimum one year experience as a personal trainer or one on one coaching
- General knowledge of fitness equipment operations and maintenance
- Experience planning and implementing fitness programs
- Experience assisting developing and managing program budgets
- Must be able to maintain required certifications, work flexible shifts including daytime, evenings, weekends and split shifts and physically fit to lift 40lbs
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Degree or diploma (2 year) in a Kinesiology, Physical Education or related field
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent people skills
- Experience working as part of a team
- Demonstration of good attendance and punctuality
- Ability to speak Inuktitut and or French are definite assets
Due to the nature of this position, the successful candidate must submit a clear criminal reference check with the vulnerable sector and TB test at the time of application.
The annual salary for this position is $65,318.08 Plus an annual settlement allowance of $20,907.43 plus an excellent benefits package.
