Stay Safe: Prevent Impaired Driving This Holiday Season
December 03, 2024 – Iqaluit, Nunavut
The City of Iqaluit and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) remind all residents that impaired driving crashes are entirely preventable. During this holiday season, let us work together to keep our roads safe by choosing a safe ride home. Protect yourself, your passengers, and others on the road.
To combat impaired driving, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and Iqaluit Municipal Enforcement are launching a month-long education and enforcement campaign. Enhanced efforts will include roadside check stops and roving patrols, where officers will be looking for impaired drivers and conducting breath tests.
More than 55% of fatal car accidents in Canada result from impaired driving. Make a plan if your celebrations include alcohol or other drugs. Arrange for a designated driver, or call a taxi to ensure everyone gets home safely.
If you suspect someone is driving impaired, report it immediately to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police at 867-979-1111. Your actions could save a life.
Thank you for doing your part to ensure a safer holiday season for all.
